Pelvic and low back pain in pregnancy

Pelvic and low back pain may occur during pregnancy. Pelvic joints softened namely during pregnancy and it is a normal process that extends the pelvis. Some women have painful problems – others feel nothing at all. If you have problems or discomfort, ask your midwife for advice.
During pregnancy, the body prepares itself for birth by producing more of the hormone relaxin. The hormone makes the tendons, ligaments and connective tissues are softened. Some women experience pain early in pregnancy, but it is most common in the second half.
Symptoms
The pelvis
When the pelvic joints soften the pelvis becomes more mobile and unstable. Often, you get pain in your lower back, into the buttocks or the front of the pubic bone to the groin.
Other symptoms may include that you:
- find it hard to go fast
- unable to take long strides
- get pain of climbing stairs
- have difficulty turning over in bed or lying on your back
- find it difficult to stand up from sitting and problems when you sit down.
Lumbar spine
Lumbar spine-related pain may not always be related to pregnancy but may have existed previously and may be caused by improper posture, that you pick the wrong, injury, or weak and tight muscles. This might burden the joints, ligaments and disks. The pain is often located above the lower back, and you can experience it as dull.
Other symptoms may include that you:
- gets more evil to the end of day
- get pain when bending forward
- can not withdraw the motion in the lower back as much as before.
