When tanning indoors using professional tanning beds and the like, government approved eye goggles are just as essential to the eyes as lotion is to the skin.
Fearing the look of ‘raccoon eyes,’ some people neglect to wear government approved eye goggles when tanning indoors. This is a big mistake as due to the thin make up of the eyelids, simply just shutting the eyes while in a tanning bed is insufficient protection from UVA and UVB light.
Even only a brief exposure to UV light waves can lead to a host of eye problems as the cornea can absorb UVB rays, causing corneal burns which may appear as inflamed eye tissue, redness and soreness of the eyes. Long term, cumulative effects of UVA can cause retinal burns, cataracts (a clouding of the eye’s lens) or even internal eye damage.
Considerable UV exposure can also cause benign growths or a thickening of the conjunctive which is the protective membrane lining the eyes and covering the eyeball. This in turn can result in pinguecula, causing the appearance of a yellow spot on either side of the cornea. In the very extreme cases, long term UV damage to the eyes can include a loss of night vision and a difficulty in seeing colors.
First Timers
Your host will take you to the tanning room and will show you how to use the bed or booth. Your host will then set the controls on the tanning bed for you and you’ll usually be given about five or six minutes to get ready before the actual sun bed starts running. This helps the salon to reduce the waiting time when it’s busy.
If you do need more time, inform your host before you use the actual bed and the timer will then be reset for you.Once you are ready to actually utilize the bed you then just lay on the bed and as you pull the top down over yourself, you press the ’start’ button on the timer controls, continue to bring the top of the bed down as it won’t shut all the way, it will stop once it gets to a certain point no matter how hard you try and pull on it and you will still be able to see out of the sides of the bed once it is shut. The actual shape allows the bulbs to reach all parts of your body for an even all over body tan.
So all you need to do then is just simply lay back, relax and enjoy your tan. As soon as your time is up the beds timer will shut off for you automatically.
Indoor Tanning Lotions
Indoor tanning lotions help to increase the speed of your melanin production which in turn will help in allowing you to achieve your tanning results much quicker and by using a good accelerator, it will also help to keep your skin healthy looking and moist.
Tan Only In Moderation
Like most activities in life, tanning must only be done in moderation. A beautiful tan is achievable without overexposure. Reddening is the bodys warning that the skin has been overexposed to UV light. Just like when your exercising, increase your tanning gradually without over doing it.
Know Your Skin Type
Everyone’s skin type and tanning needs are all different. But by knowing what your skin type is, you will be able to time your tanning sessions in according to what you need to achieve a balance. By determining the best amount of UV exposure, it will help you to gradually achieve a great tan, but without overexposing your skin to the UV rays. Consult your physician if you have any doubt and don’t ever allow yourself to burn. Be sure to check with your doctor if you are on any medication that may cause your skin to be more sensitive to UV rays.
Utilize The High Output Beds
These beds are equipped with special technology and bulbs which can help you achieve a deeper and darker tan in a lot less time then your standard sun bed. Try one such as the Sunliner 8000 or VLR Express tanning bed for faster tanning results.
