Wonder about coffeeIf you start your day with a cup of coffee, you’re not alone. Amount of caffeine consumed by Americans every day, equivalent to 530 million cups of coffee. Caffeine is not only cheered the most popular drug, but also one of the oldest: they say the archaeologists, people began to brew beverages from plants containing caffeine, even in the Stone Age.

As caffeine invigorate

Caffeine gives courage, not because supplies you with extra energy, but because it deceives the body, and he begins to think that it is not tired.

When the brain gets tired and wants to reduce the rate, it produces a chemical called adenosine. This matter comes to the receptor cells, which starts to work by neutralizing substances that stimulate the brain. Caffeine mimics adenosine, and “scores” receptors, not allowing this adenosine to get to them. As a result, your brain never gets the signal to lower the rate, and continues to accumulate stimulants.

After some time, the brain begins to understand what is happening, and increases the number of receptors that they had enough and caffeine, and adenosine. After that caffeine can no longer keep you awake if you do not increase the amount of consumed beverage in order to “score” new receptors.

The whole process takes about a week. During this time, you essentially become dependent on caffeine. Your brain literally changes its structure, to work on caffeine – eliminate caffeine, and to work properly it will be too much of the receptor cells.

If you abruptly stop using caffeine, your brain will immediately begin to reduce the number of receptors. But it takes about two weeks, during which time your body will send a “distress signals” in the form of headaches, apathy, fatigue, muscle pain, nausea, and sometimes in the form of general lethargy and symptoms resembling the flu. Therefore, many doctors recommend to reduce the amount of caffeine intake gradually.

Effects of caffeine
